Handing over the Operations of the “New Mooring Container Terminal” to the Colonialist US-influenced Company “DP World” will threaten the Country’s Sovereignty
Without caring the country’s sovereignty, the interim government is moving ahead with the process of handing over various facilities and terminals of the country’s strategically and economically important Chittagong Port to foreigners in the name of increasing port capacity under the guise of foreign direct investment (FDI). As part of this, the process of handing over the self-sufficient and highest revenue-generating New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port to Dubai-based operator DP World is in its final stages (Daily Jugantor, May 6, 2025). Chittagong Port is a strategic region of Bangladesh facing the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. As a result, this port is not only very important as an economic lifeline, but also a strategic asset from a geopolitical and military perspective. 90% of international trade is handled through this port and 60% of its main income comes from the New Mooring Container Terminal, so if a suicidal decision is made to hand it over to a foreign company, not only will the economic sovereignty of the country be weakened, but we will also be in danger of facing geopolitical, military, and strategic challenges. As you surely know, DP World is a global logistics company based in Dubai, which is internationally well-known for providing port development, maritime services, modern logistics systems, and technology-based trade facilities, but the Kafir Colonialist powers, especially the United States and Britain, use it for military purposes to achieve their geopolitical interests. It is worth noting that Dubai is one of the strategic allies of the United States in the Middle East and an ally of the illegal Jewish entity. For example, Dubai participated in the multinational air exercise “INIOCHOS-25” held at the “Andravida Air Base” in Greece from March 31, 2025 to April 11, 2025, alongside the United States, the illegal Jewish entity, and India [THE ECONOMIC TIMES, 13 April 2025]. It is clear from this that the treacherous group is continuing its malicious efforts to transfer the operation of the “New Mooring Container Terminal” of the Chittagong Port to “DP World” as a project to establish American Colonialism in the region. Allah ﷻ warns us about the dominance of the Kafirs over the Muslims, saying, “If they gain dominance over you, they would be [i.e., behave] to you as enemies and extend against you their hands and their tongues with evil, and they wish you would disbelieve” [Surah Al-Mumtahinah: 2].
O People, you are aware that the fallen dictator Hasina, in order to maintain her power, handed over the Matarbari deep-sea port located in the south of Bangladesh to Japan, one of the proxies of the United States in the Indo-Pacific Strategy, which is basically related to US geopolitical interests in Bangladesh’s deep-sea ports under the guise of Japan’s partnership. In addition, the Hasina government also agreed in principle to hand over all 15 hydrocarbon blocks located in Bangladesh’s deep sea to the US energy giant company ExxonMobil (Daily Jugantar, April 25, 2023), which ExxonMobil works closely with the US Congress and the White House. And the current interim government has also followed the footsteps of the fallen Hasina government and started the process of handing over NCT to DP World in the name of foreign investment in various projects of the strategically very important Chittagong Port. DP World cooperates with the US Navy in its activities as an important partner in ports of various countries around the world. Therefore, the presence of such powerful US-influenced companies within Bangladeshi waters and in strategic installations means further consolidating American control within the country, which is tantamount to selling out sovereignty.
O People, when our workers send at least two billion dollars in remittances every month, it is deceptive to express excitement about a billion dollar investment by ‘DP World’. It is necessary to strengthen our capacity and our own port management to protect strategic facilities like ports and natural resources from foreign occupation; and thus, the sovereignty of the country will be protected and the country’s economy will be strengthened. However, politicians loyal to the West have no political ambitions for the people of the country. Rather, instead of achieving their own capacity, they are eager to protect the interests of foreign companies and their colonial masters. That is why all their decisions and actions are based on securing their own power by protecting the interests of their colonial masters. Therefore, the country’s strategic resources are not safe in the hands of these secular ruling classes and they will not allow you to enjoy the proper benefits of the country’s resources. We, Hizb ut Tahrir, would like to remind you that only the Khilafah established upon the method of the Prophethood can govern according to the Sharia and get rid our vital resources such as oil, gas and ports from the domination of foreign enemies. The upcoming Khilafah will unify the Muslim Ummah and use its strategic resources to emerge as a leading state in the world.
