The Interim Government is continuing the Legacy of Hasina’s Tyrannical Regime by sending Journalist Mahmudur Rahman to Jail
On Sunday, September 29, 2024, a Dhaka court sent Mahmudur Rahman, former acting editor of daily Amar Desh, to jail after he surrendered in a false case lodged for abducting and attempting murder of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Hizbut Tahrir / Wilayah Bangladesh condemns this egregious act of the interim government in the strongest possible terms. We want to remind this interim government that you were born out of anti-discrimination and anti-tyrannical uprising of the mass people. People naturally expect that your actions would reflect anti-discriminatory principles. They desire that you demonstrate yourself completely different from the previous oppressive Hasina regime. But unfortunately, we have witnessed that the Chief Adviser of this government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has been acquitted in all his cases. Also, the two-year prison sentence of another Advisor, Adilur Rahman Khan, has been overturned by the high court. But when it came to Mahmudur Rahman, a valiant who has always stood up to Hasina’s tyranny, he is sent to jail on the pretext of following the ‘natural course of law’ whereas we saw ‘different course of law’ in the acquittal cases of the advisors of the interim government.
We, therefore, call upon the interim government of Bangladesh to immediately release Mr. Mahmudur Rahman and acquit him of all the false cases. Otherwise, people of Bangladesh will not hesitate to take a strong stance against you for continuing the legacy of discrimination of the fallen Hasina regime.
