The Approval to make ‘Speedy Trial Act’ Permanent proves that Hasina is a Tyrannical Ruler, and Secular-Democracy is a System of Tyranny

On 29 January 2024, Hasina’s cabinet gave final approval to the draft of the Law and Order Disruption (Speedy Trial) (Amendment)-2024, drawing strong reactions from opposition parties as the law has been used to specifically suppress opposition parties. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that the Law and Order Disruption (Speedy Trial) Act was not made permanent to suppress any group or political party, rather the law was implemented to protect law and order because of speedy trial. For this the law has been made permanent. However, when the BNP government promulgated the law in 2002, the then opposition Awami League protested strongly. The salient feature of the Act is that the accused can be convicted only on the basis of the complainant’s testimony and using unreliable information such as audio, video and photos, which is grossly unfair and oppressive.

Legislations that silence the voice of the people are always dear to secular rulers. Hasina government recently enacted the Cyber Security Act-2023 through which all criticism against the ruling party is considered a heinous crime and severe punishment has been laid down. These black laws are widely used to suppress anti-government political parties and general people’s movements. Besides, none of the Awami-BNP ruling group has canceled Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code created by the British colonialists. Where the duty of the ruler is to look after the affairs of the people, but in the secular-democratic system, the rulers create arbitrary laws for their own interests and use these laws to oppress the people. It is this very sovereign authority to legislate which has made the ruling class into such monster. Is it not natural that it is not possible for limited human being to rise above their own interests and legislate laws which inherently universal? The rule of the secular system cannot and will not give the people anything but oppression. Allah (swt) says, “Those who do not govern by the revealed law of Allah, they are the wrongdoers” [Surah Al-Ma’idah: 45].

The way to get rid of oppression is to follow the words of Allah (swt) Al-Khaliq, Al-Khabir, the creator of the universe including mankind. He alone knows best in which path the welfare of mankind is entrusted. Allah (swt) says, “….Legislation is not but for Allah” [Surah Yusuf: 40].

O Aware People, especially the intellectuals! Allah (swt) says, “…Say, Are those who know equal to those who do not know?” Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding.” [Az-Zumar: 09]. You see, the global secular-democratic system has failed to take care of the larger population except serving the interests of a small elite, and spreading tyranny like a global epidemic in just a century. Instead of being used as a mouthpiece for this tyranny, follow the footsteps of At-Tufayl (R.A.), an intellectual and a great poet, he (RA) often said, “When I came to Makkah, the Messenger was there and some Quraysh came to meet him. They said, ‘This man has done us great harm, torn our communities apart, destroying their unity. In fact, the man speaks like a magician, with those words a man is separated from his father, mother, brother, wife. We fear that his words will have the same effect on you and your people. So don’t talk to him, don’t listen to him.’ They insisted so much that I decided, I won’t listen to him, I won’t talk to him either. While going to the mosque, if one or two of his words came to my ears against my will, I completely covered my ears with cotton. Going near the mosque, I saw the Messenger ﷺ standing in prayer next to the Kaaba. I went to him and stood. It was ordained by Allah that I should listen to some of His words and I heard a beautiful word. I said to myself, may Allah has mercy on me! I am a poet, a wise man, who knows the difference between good and bad, so why should I not listen to what the man is saying? If his word is good, I will accept it, and exclude, if it is evil.”

Surely you are smart! You are able to distinguish between good and bad. Hizb ut Tahrir is constantly presenting to you the weakness of this secular-capitalist system and the model of implementation of the Islamic solution Khilafah through our intellectual and political programs and inviting you to participate in this movement. Should you not, as conscious and intelligent people, respond to the call of Hizb ut Tahrir? So, reject this system of tyranny, promote and spread the system of Khilafah designated by Allah (swt) as the only alternative for mankind. Only Khilafah state can establish a prosperous society by establishing justice in the society. Allah (swt) says:
*وَإِنَّهُ لَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ* “And indeed, it is guidance and mercy for the believers” [Surah An-Naml: 77].
